If you’re ever in Sydney, check out B-Kyu blog for cheap eats ideas
One of my favourite non-Canberra food blogs is the Sydney-based street-food blog B-Kyu.
B-Kyu is “a celebration of the world’s great culinary underbelly by two Sydney-based travel nerds. They dig traditional foods, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and international supermarkets of mystery.”
They recently came to Canberra to check out our annual world-famous National Multicultural Festival and were appropriately impressed.
They also wisely set aside some time to visit a local favourite – The Burmese Curry Place.
I’ve blogged on it before here and it’s one of those classic authentic ethnic restaurants that is family run and gives you consistent value for money.
It’s great to see it get the national recognition it deserves!
A list of #Canberra food blogs
After a brief chat with a few other Canberra food bloggers I thought it would be worthwhile complimenting my Twitter list of #Canberra Foodies (i.e. people in Canberra who share food stories on twitter – I’ve identified over 234! see the list here) with a reasonably current Canberra Food Bloggers list.
When I started tweeting from @CBRFoodie last year I noticed (after a little bit of research and googling) there seemed to be hundreds of Canberra-based food blogs, but most seemed to have died a quick death. I’m guessing this is because a lot of people try and then abandon the idea of blogging when they realise it can be time-consuming, has technical challenges and it involves occasionally interacting with some very strongly opinionated people. (So perhaps a background in politics may help? 🙂
Anyway – back to the topic at hand. Here’s a short list (only 75 at last count!) of my current favourite Canberra-based food bloggers (in alphabetical order). As you can see I’ve discovered most of these via Twitter or Facebook. More recently I also discovered two relevant facebook groups (which are appropriately moderated to keep the content relevant): Canberra Bloggers Collective and Canberra Food Bloggers. Both are closed groups just for bloggers and both are moderated to keep posts on topic. Even more recently a friend Anna (@eatnik) pointed me in the direction of another ten or so additions to the list which I had missed!
If you know of anyone not on this list please let me know and I’ll update it. After a few iterations I was advised that it would be more sensible to try and keep the list in alphabetical order, so it is alphabetised on the basis of the blog name.

Also, I have to mention there are few Canberra people who may not be trying to be food bloggers but who share plenty of food stories and Canberra stories and who follow these sorts of conversations very closely on twitter to the point where I think of them as fellow-Canberra foodies (I’ll explain why in some detail in a future blog).

Meet a #Canberra Foodie: Trish (@eatshootblog)
This is my third interview with some of Canberra’s better known foodies and bloggers, inviting them to share information about themselves so we can learn more about what makes them tick and why they are such cool people.
My third interview is with the Trish (@eatshootblog), who has been an active member of Canberra’s constantly evolving online community for several years (I first noticed her great snippets of advice about food, photography and parenting in Canberra on Twitter in 2010).
Trish is between blogs because she’s about to launch a Kickstarter campaign and all her creative energies are going straight into that at the moment!
Who are you Trish? I was born, raised, educated, married and became a mother in Canberra. I started writing online as a contributor to parenting forums when my kids were babies, and in 2004 organised my thoughts and opinions into a blog. That blog evolved and endured for almost ten years though I recently stopped blogging to focus on writing a novel and right now I’m getting ready to launch my own company. I tweet about anything and everything and post lots of pictures of food on Instagram (both as @eatshootblog). I am a very proud Canberra resident but since we turned 100 and we’re all grown up, I have vowed not to engage in any more debates with Canberra-bashers. Rather, I say a short prayer of thanks that they don’t live here. My favourite place to go in Canberra for an affordable, tasty meal is The Duxton for Thursday night Burger + Beer $15. It’s my local, so I’m a bit of a fan.
<For those that want to check it out some of the regular specials at The Duxton, check this out. http://www.theduxton.com.au/whats-on>
