YWCA Frugal Feast Stories & Sandwiches
Had the pleasure of attending the Canberra YWCA Frugal Feast Recipe Book Launch at the ANU Food Co-Op this evening. In attendance were some of the amazing women who keep the wheels of this important womens advocacy group turning, as well as a couple if special guests: ACT Minister Shane Rattenbury and Canberra Times Food Editor Natasha Rudra.
The crowd was also entertained with melodies from lovely Cheeky Violets.
This book and other special YWCA events from 17-24 Nov will raise money & food for their annual Christmas appeal. Contact the YECA for more info of to make a contribution.

Plumb on Tennant, Fyshwick
Tara’s review of Plumb on Tennant is on-the-money and cool. Great photos too as usual 🙂
I’ve spruiked continuously that Canberra is full of these ‘hidden gems’ – often we only hear about these places because they’re where we live, or through word of mouth (often because other people live there!). I’m not sure I would ever have heard of Plumb on Tennant if it wasn’t for CBR Foodie‘s lunchtime post a few weeks ago. You see, this hidden gem is in Fyshwick!

This is not a post about the OECD report
Must read bog post from Tara (@In_The_Taratory) regarding the latest Canberra-bashing from Australia’s main stream media outlets. Although I have to admit the ABC coverage has been pretty good in comparison.
(I promised myself I wouldn’t do this.)
It started in the early hours of Tuesday morning, when the OECD report was released. You know the one.
I woke to this, tweeted to his 70,000 followers.
I could only think, Here we go again.
Thirty-six hours later, people are still making the same unique, witty remarks.
First, let’s get a few things straight. Do the report findings feel a bit familiar? You’re right. Yup, this was actually news in late June. Tuesday’s announcement was simply the release of the expanded report, but – kind of like…

The District
Tales of a Confectionist investigates The District. Make sure you follow her blog for more tasty investigation.
Who knew, tucked away in the suburbs that The District existed, but I guess that’s what the place needs since the Gungahlin area is expanding so rapidly. We couldn’t get a table til 8pm and when I went in, I realised why. Number 1: it is very popular and number 2: they have very limited seated when it is cold and no one wants to sit outside.
I made a rookie mistake and ate a very large snack to keep me going to dinner time but instead it probably limited my stomach space and therefore limited my choices on what we tried from the menu.
The District is a versatile place that welcomes friends and families in a casual environment which has a menu to suit everyone and a lot of drink specials at the bar.

Light starters~
Creamy garlic prawns with steamed rice ($15.90). Probably not the best…

Ricardos @ Jamison
Ricardos Cafe in Jamison Canberra is a very popular breakfast option & looks like it’s pet-friendly!
First thing you should know about Ricardos is that it is ALWAYS busy. From the moment it opens, people swarm in, and that my friends is a sign that you should be in there too. I have been to Ricardos a number of times, but this time in particular was for a work breakfast farewell. Sadly there was no cake consumed at breakfast (even though I have done it before) but Ricardos would be my top recommendation for sweet treats in Canberra. Their enormous cake fridge is the statement piece of the entire cafe set up. As there was a few of us at the breakfast, we got an idea of the varied spread of dishes available for breakkie.
Plus its puppy friendly outside, if you can deal with the noise from the playground close by.
For the light eater, ham and cheese croissant.
For the tried and true eater, bacon…

Travel | The Best Sandwich in Paris
Interesting post about the ‘best sandwich in Paris ‘ … Looks delicious!

As jet lag is slowly killing me, and getting back into my normal routine is looking to be impossible, it is that time that I begin to reminisce about my amazing Paris adventures that I had last week. I was incredibly blessed to escape the rush of Sydney life and re-kindle my love for one of my favourite cities in the world. But more importantly, to try some tasty French food. So sit tight and get ready for a few posts recounting my unforgettable food experiences in Paris.
I thought I would start off with the very first place we visited for lunch after hopping off our plane. On my last visit to Paris (Winter 2012), Dad and I stumbled across a food market in Le Marais that sold the most amazing sandwiches. The Market is called Les Enfants Rouges which means ‘The children of Red’ which was originally an…

Brod Dogs, Belconnen
Great post from http://www.InTheTaratory.wordpress.com about the new BrodDog van in the Belconnen Mall CarPark . Worth a try. I can attest that the chilli dog tastes terrific 🙂
You might not know it, but Belco has a lot of cool things. So much so, that other cool things in Canberra are coming to join the existing cool things in Belco. It’s true!
One of these is Brodburger. Well, not quite. But it IS the folks behind Brodburger, and the best part is the notorious red caravan is BACK! It’s been restyled as Brod Dogs. Yup, hot dogs with the same attention to detail as the burgers for which Brod is famous. But how do they taste?
